SCITT teacher training Essex
Essex and Thames Primary SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) offers high quality teacher training in primary education. You will graduate with QTS, and if you take our PGCE option, will also be awarded either a Postgraduate Certificate in Education or a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education according to how many credits you receive. If you wish to find out more about these two PGCEs, you can do so here – About PGCEs.
Full time and part time PGCE courses are available, with a choice of PGCE specialisms in general primary, early years, middle school and special educational needs and disabilities.
We also run the The Assessment Only route for experienced unqualified teachers which leads to QTS in 6-12 weeks.
Why train to be a teacher with us?
We provide superb mentoring in top quality schools enabling us to offer all our SCITT teacher trainees outstanding support and guidance throughout the teacher training year. Our success is shown in the high numbers of trainees who graduate with an outstanding grade and the fact that ALL of our trainees get jobs on qualifying.
During your training year you will undertake placements in at least two different schools and we do our best to accommodate all age phase requests so if you haven’t decided which age range you wish to work in, don’t worry. We will ensure that your teaching practices enable you to apply for any primary school teaching job upon graduation.
Although the majority of your training takes place within the classroom, you will also attend a wide range of lectures to ensure that you are able to draw on a sound theoretical understanding of teaching and learning and are familiar with up to date educational theory, current trends in education and relevant and useful teaching skills.
We recognise that some trainees are keen to specialise from the start, so training with us will mean that you may also choose to specialise in Early Years Foundation Stage, Maths, Middle School, PE or Special Educational Needs and Disability. Moreover, additional SCITT training is offered for those interested in school leadership or maths subject leadership. During the PGCE course, every trainee receives support from a dedicated and highly experienced personal tutor.
Why SCITT teacher training Essex?
Many teacher training courses are either School Direct (i.e. school based) or a University lead PGCE (more theory and less classroom practise) but our SCITT PGCE gives you the best of both routes into teaching. We passionately believe that our newly qualified teachers are amongst the most successful NQTs in the country because of it.
Furthermore, Essex and Thames Primary SCITT is the largest provider of primary School Direct places in the region with over 136 schools in our partnership throughout Essex, Southend, Thurrock and East London. Such a large number of partner schools means that we can offer you a wide range of valuable experiences to ensure you become a highly confident newly qualified teacher having experienced a variety of settings and environments.
